Mar 25, 2004 Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0, Visual C 6.0 with Visual Source Safe 6.0d provides the latest updates to these products. It is recommended for all users of Visual Basic 6.0, Visual C 6.0 and Visual Source Safe 6.0.
This isn't a question, but just a helpful post for myself (in the future) and anyone else that may be in the same situation as I was.
I recently moved to a new laptop running Windows 10 Pro. Previously, I was on Windows 7 Pro. On Windows 7, I was able to run Visual Source Safe 2005 without any problems. I still use it for personal version control of my files. When I tried to install it on Windows 10 Pro, I ended up getting errors. I rolled everything back and then did some research. English download update. I managed to find one post (this one) talking about the same issue and he referenced this post, which had the answer.
Visual Source Safe 2005 depends on older .NET. When I tried installing Visual Source Safe 2005 the first time on Windows 10, it tried to install the older software, but failed. It seems that you can just install the necessary older software from Windows 10 itself. Just press the Start button (Windows key) and search for Turn Windows features on or off. Check off the first one on the list named .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0). There is no need to check off the 2 sub-items under that. Then just press OK and restart your computer. After that, proceed with installing Visual Source Safe 2005 as normal. There was no need to run the VSS installer with any sort of compatibility mode. The installation went flawlessly.
